A routine trespassing call turned into a bizarre encounter for police in Louisiana earlier this week when a woman made a real splash.
Union Parish deputies say that 41‑year‑old Erin Elizabeth Sutton was found swimming naked in a neighbor’s pond. The homeowner told dispatchers this wasn’t the first time Sutton had taken an uninvited dip and that she refused repeated requests to get out of the water. When deputies arrived, they said Sutton began screaming and insisted she couldn’t leave because she was "trying to be a mermaid." Officers eventually convinced her to come out so paramedics could evaluate her.
But according to police, the situation escalated when Sutton was being moved toward a nearby home. Deputies say she suddenly charged at one of them. A taser was deployed but reportedly had no effect, and officers say Sutton kicked and punched a deputy before she was finally restrained. She was taken to a hospital, where officials say she continued threatening both deputies and paramedics. Sutton now faces a long list of charges, including resisting an officer with force or violence, battery of a police officer, public intimidation, disturbing the peace, and criminal trespassing.
