They rank the 100 most populated metro areas in the country in three key categories of weight-related problems: Obesity & Overweight; Health Consequences; and Food & Fitness. They evaluated those using 19 metrics, including number of overweight and obese adults, teens and kids, number of adults with health issues related to weight like diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure, as well as access to parks and access to healthy food. Based on those factors, WalletHub names the area of McAllen - Edinburg - Mission, Texas as the most overweight/obese metro area in the country. On the flip side, the place with the least amount of overweight people in 2023 is Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, Colorado, which is dead last for number of obesity and overweight indicators and 99th for health consequences. *Des Moines/West Des Moines is listed at #47, but 86th for "Health Consequences" and 57th in the "Food and Fitness" category.
