By now, everyone who has a page on Facebook has seen the tributes to the high school senior class of 2020. With graduations cancelled everywhere, people have been showing their “support” for these grads by posting their own high school senior photos…while at the same time giving our personal info like the name of their high school and graduation year.
The problem? The Better Business Bureau is warning people not to skip it…if it’s not too late. As harmless as it seems, that’s just the kind of information you might see as a security question a website might use to confirm your identity if you’re trying to login but forgot your password. In other words, you’re giving hackers more access than they need.
Similarly, there’s another posting trend going viral where people are posting pictures of every car they’ve ever owned. To those who’ve participated, you may’ve given an enterprising scumbag the answer to the question, “What’s the first car you owned?” on some website. In a perfect world, all the personal info we post on social media would be fun and harmless, but this isn’t that world and there’s no shortage of jerks out there wanting to exploit and take advantage of you. So be careful…not everyone is as nice as you.
