It looks like the next domino to fall in the battle for political correctness could be in the UFC. On October 5th, UFC 243 will be held in Melbourne, Australia…and Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp wants the scantily clad ring girls that go into the Octagon between rounds to be gone.
Capp calls the ring girl tradition “sexist and backward,” and wants to see it gone from the event. Citing the fact that Formula One racing got rid of the “Grid Girls” and the “Walk-On Girls” are no longer part of the exhilarating world of professional darts, Capp offers, “It’s 2019. Do we really need scantily clad women to wander around a fighting ring between rounds?” She’s got support from other politicians, too.
Thing is? For the girls, this is a part-time gig that can pay $25K annually and many do it in the hopes of launching successful modelling careers just like Arianny Celeste and Brittney Palmer. Plus, it’s not like anyone is asking the guys to switch from wearing form-fitting shorts or onesies or bib overalls to protect their modesty.Equality!
