Common sense would seem to say it doesn't pay to wave a cape at a bull you've jabbed several times with spears, but that's what bullfighters do. And so matador Daniel Garcia Navarrete was knocked off his feet on Sunday at Madrid's famed Las Ventas bullring after being gored in the leg by a 1,014 lbs. bull who also caught him in the throat as he lay on the ground covering his face.
Navarrete has undergone surgery with Las Ventas officials reporting that the injuries were roughly 5 inches deep in the throat and 3 inches into his leg.
The animal tossed Navarrete around the ring before other matadors came to his rescue during the incident that was witnessed by more than 10,000 people at Spain's largest bullring.
