Tom Morello's Fender Guitar Is Helping Put Guitars In Schools And Prisons

In March, Tom Morello launched a signature Fender guitar. The "Soul Power" Stratocaster is a replica of the axe he put together when he began playing for Audioslave, including the alterations he originally made. "I needed to make it my guitar," he says in a Fender session. "So I added the toggle switch. I added the hot pickup in the back and I added the whammy bar to be able to sort of build a bridge and a transition between my other guitars and yet something that was going to have an entirely unique [sound] ... to point towards a new batch of songs, a new batch of music."

Now fans can play their own "Soul Power," and in the process help put free guitars into schools and prisons across the country — Morello and Fender are giving away hundreds of guitars to public schools and Wayne Kramer's felon rehabilitation non-profit Jail Guitar Doors.

"Worked long & hard on this #SoulPower guitar with ⁦@Fender⁩," Morello captioned an Instagram post. "Cool guitar and part of proceeds help put free guitars in schools & prisons"

You can buy your very own "Soul Power" via Fender's online shop, and watch Morello's full session below.
