Fat-Shaming Sign Draws Flack On Social Media

This is the sign a community center in Edmonton, Alberta that greets people as they drive into town. JessicaBaudin-Griffin called out the Leefield Community League on Facebook for its “inappropriate” message, which reads: “Tired of being fat and ugly? Hit the gym and just be ugly!”

The president of the League, Wil Tonowski, says the sign wasn’t intended to hurt anyone and he’s upset anyone saw it as anything other than a joke.

They got enough heat that the message has now been taken down. but the issue is being looked into by the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues and their executive director agrees the message “was not welcoming and inclusive to all community members.”
