David Byrne has traveled the world with the Talking Heads for decades, yet he felt so moved by a 2013 stop at the 80/35 Music Festival that he jumped at the chance to come back to Des Moines in 2014 to deliver the keynote speech for the opening of the Des Moines Social Club. Bryne also played at the Civic Center in 2018, so with multiple trips back you know he loves him some DSM.
Bryne told Little Village Magazine, “We New Yorkers need to get over ourselves a little bit and be aware of what’s going on elsewhere. And to entertain the idea that life doesn’t have to be all about aggressive striving…to realize we don’t have a monopoly on how one can make a life in a city.” Amen, David Byrne!
