Maryland governor Martin O'Malley signed two bills into law related to marijuana on Monday.
The first bill, SB 364, decriminalizes the possession of small amounts of marijuana. Under the law, possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana is punishable by a fine.
The second bill, HB 881, will expand a previous bill to allow medical marijuana. Patients with various symptoms and ailments will be able to get medicine from licenses dispensaries. Patients must get approval from doctors who are approved by the state.
The marijuana decriminalization bill will make it easier for law enforcement to focus on higher priority crimes & drive down violence in MD— Martin O'Malley (@GovernorOMalley) April 14, 2014
