All of the rain of the past week has made more of the drought go away.

The weekly report from the U.S. Drought Monitor says nearly 44% of Iowa is drought free. The latest map shows much of central Iowa and most of northeast Iowa have no concerns at the moment. Nearby areas as well as west central Iowa are said to be abnormally dry.

The report indicates a good portion of northwest Iowa, as well as a small part of southwest and southeast Iowa are considered to be in the moderate drought category.

The report notes conditions in the state as of 7:00 AM Tuesday so any benefits from rain after that time won't be noted until the report of May 20.
